Basketball
After a few beers,
every Indian is a hero of "unbroken horses".
Someone always remembers I was the Reservation
point guard with the Crazy Horse jump shot.
Someone always wants to go one-on-one in the alley
while Lester FallsApart balances on a garbage can,
his arms forming the hoop.
Someone always bets his ribbon shirt against mine,
and we play, and I win.
Someone always finishes the night bareback,
like it should be, while I go home,
hang another shirt in my closet,
another Crazy Horse dream
without a skeleton or skin.
