Earth And Sky


witness my thoughts, oh Father Sky
for they rise higher than the tall pines
they soar with eagles across the rivers
and beyond the blue mountains...to him

witness my wounded heart, oh Mother Earth
for her tears fall against your breast
and like a dove who has lost her mate
her pain she calls out into the twilight

witness my soul, oh Great Spirit
never have I withheld its secrets from you
shattered and numbed with hopelessness
it howls a lament like the midnight wolf

how long will I walk amid the shadows
and my eyes refuse to seek the skies?
how long will this heaviness cover me?
as thoughts fly far away... to him
