H. Palmer Hall


H. Palmer Hall is the author of six books and chapbooks including From the Periphery: poems and essays (Chili Verde Press) ; Deep Thicket and Still Waters(Chili Verde Press) and To Wake Again (Pudding House Publications). His work has appeared in various literary magazines, including North American Review, The Texas Review, Ascent, Mizna: a journal of Arab American Culture, Palo Alto Review, The Texas Observer, Briar Cliff Review, WLA (War, Literature and the Arts) and The Florida Review among many others. His work has also been selected for several anthologies, including American Diaspora: poetry of displacement (University of Iowa Press), Letters to J. D. Salinger (University of Wisconsin Press), In a Fine Frenzy (University of Iowa Press), Best Texas Writing II Firewheel Editions), The Practice of Peace (Sherman Asher Publishing) and others.

In 2007, Plain View Press published his most recent book, Coming to Terms, a collection of memoiristic essays with a large center section dealing with his experiences during the Vietnam War. In that same year, his own press, Pecan Grove Press, published Reflections from Pete’s Pond, a small book of his poems written for the aficionados of a live webcast from the Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana, Africa, which sells the book in its Curio Shop. His next book will be Foreign and Domestic, a collection of poems which will be published in 2009 by Turning Point Press.

He received the Art of Peace Award from the President's Peace Commission of St. Mary's University in spring, 2008.

He is the library director at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, where he also teaches English and serves as the director of Pecan Grove Press. He is a member of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) and of the Texas Association of Creative Writing Teachers (TACWT).

He was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters in 2005.

    Thank you for doing this...what a nice, convenient way to check to see what's already been published out there on the web. And with hot links!! I've already found your blog useful for my own stuff and for reading good stuff by others. Some of then (Larry Thomas and Marian Haddad), I've been fortunate enough to publish with Pecan Grove Press, so it's a double pleasure to see them here. This mjust have been a lot of work; I did not want it to be thankless work.
