Nearness, Separation

Photograph by Duane Locke

nearness, separation

I stood below
Gazing at her silhouette
On the yellow-orange curtain,
I was dissolved into darkness, curves.

She twisted before her mirror,
Thinking of how in a previous life centuries ago
She was married to a man
Who wore a bandana on his head, tossed horseshoes.

She with the dark hair had moved
To the back of the room,
Her darkness no longer had contours.
I had disappeared into vagueness.

She has spread out on a sofa before the mirror,
Thinking of how in a previous life centuries ago
She was married to a man, who wore a body shirt,
With his teeth ripped caps off beer bottles.
