Poem For My One-Legged Lover, the Wine Glass, No. 53

Painting by Libby Cagle

Poem for My One-Legged Lover, the Wine Glass, No. 53

I reached out
My hand to pet,
The star barked,
Ran away,
Climbed a
Ladder of light
Back to the sky.

I looked up,
Saw all the stars
Were barking,
Unfriendly barks.

I put my hands
Over my ears,
Found my ears
Were gone.

I ran home,
Pulled down
All the curtains.
The curtains barked,
Unfriendly barks.

  1. I said I would come over and read the poems;
the images are totally unexpected and quite out of the ordinary.

The lines entitled 'statue' made me catch my breath.
