Mystic Vegetation
Photograph #163 by Duane Locke
Mystic Vegetation
Photograph #165
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
My photos that I call "SurPhotography "once started with trash, debris, of what people have tossed away, and the visual experience developed from the origin, but now it mainly starts with flowers. I seek to discover the insect's vision of the flower, the mystic flower, the flower as a spiritual force.
Photograph #167
My obsession is to see what is not ordinarily
seen in the seen and develop the origin into
what has never been seen before--a type
of terrestrial illumination derived from
empirical perception that expands into
the phenomenal and a this-worldly,
spatio-temporal mysticism.
Also being a poet, I avoid reference to
the literal and do not want my photos
to be conceptualized. My photo should be
experience as visual communication and not
mimetic representations of a familiar,
common-sense reality, a reality
that in my philosophy is false.
