Foliar Folly

Foliar Folly

Jilted, by Selfish Summer.
Foolishly parading in vibrant green,
Nut-studded and heavily seasoned.
Blind to the perfunctory kiss
Of an unfaithful sun.
Chilled with clues,
In the short, tipping days
Of lying light.

Always, the last to know.
Drowning in deciduous distress,
Fall-flushed and fast fading.
Tricked and tripped
By a heartless breeze.
Silenced by the drift,
On a slowly, scribbled path
Of dying flight.
