Nuptial Ultim

Nuptial Ultim

“A long marriage is two people trying to dance a duet
and two solos at the same time.”--Barnett R. Brickner

Between my wife and myself
we share the wealth of six marriages;
three states of matrimony each,

finding each other late along our journey,
eyes wide open, wild oats sown,
fantasies, mysteries, most of the mistakes
exorcised.

Yet the mythos, the magic, the heat
is prevalent, permanent, & sturdy.

On that day in 1993,
the north and the south
collided,
and as we made contact
and were joined,
we became one entity,
two souls in lock-step
forming the spiritual fetus
of a whole new organism,
man + woman,
husband + wife
united,
commingled, mixed, blended & blessed.

Truth, naked and quivering, streaked
across the face of the millennium
like a crackling Texas lightning bolt,
silver brilliant against a midnight sky,
and I think we were stone-captured,
coupled cosmically, just steel shavings
inexorably drawn to each other’s magnets,
maneuvering magnificently into alignment
on a parallel plane;

Thank God,
as we met
we recognized
each other.
