Kelp Lemonade

“Life expectancy would grow in leaps and bounds if only
green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.”
--Doug Larson

Moss is
the mold we accept
in nature,
while
arid climes grow
green with thirst,
forcing amphibians
to become
green at the gills
as smog clogs airways.

Verdant,
rife with rot,
today’s jungle canopy
green out the sun
as greenish bacteria
sharpens its fangs.

  1. I like this. And your quote made me laugh. I reminded me of last week when I made brussels sprouts with bacon and my son gave me a hard time because I had to have bacon to make my greens edible.

  2. Ha.. I can feel that you should write a horror script for a film about the fanged brussel sprouts.
    Love that title too.

  4. Well, I laughted out loud at the quotation! And then immediately thought of the kale chip craze. Really? I'm sorry....I'll take my Ruffles with French Onion Dip made with real sour cream, two times a year (Super Bowl Sunday and during the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day) and figure abstaining the rest of the year is easier than eating green vegetable chips! Fangs indeed! :)

  5. Just made me think of that old (really old) song--Beware of the Blob--that comes creeping at you.

  7. You hid the "greens" in there very well. Didn't realize how many until I looked back at what I had read.

  10. "Verdant, rife with rot," -- now that's a good tongue twister-upper!

  12. I do think you and Stephen King could have a field day with this greenish rot horror idea..

I'm a bit behind on your stories- will be good to catch up !

Very true Glenn! One tends to be so much taken up with the goodness of greens as healthy food and greenery as beauty of Spring's colors, one forgets dangers of other things that are just as green. Such reminders can bring back good sense to protect oneself. Great!
