Still

painting by Megan Duncanson.

Still

“Shoot for the moon, and if you miss it
you’ll still be among the stars.”--Les Brown.

As my eyes open,
glancing out the window
at the dark gray underbelly
of Spring cumulus,

I realize I’m        still alive,
                          still behind on projects,
                          still in pain,
                          still hungry,
                          still ambitious,
                          still in love
with my wife--
so I greeted

the new day.

  1. I'm glad in spite of the negative "stills" that you are still in live with your wife. I think we all are behind in projects, tasks that must be done...sigh. it seems the older I get the behinder I get.

  3. The key words are "still ambitious" and "still in love with my wife". If you manage those two, the rest will fall in place! Nicely written.

  4. Nice quote by Les Brown. I liked the repetition of "still". Beautiful painting by Duncanson and enjoyable audio performance of your poem.

  7. Such a thankful poem, Glenn! I particularly like the phrase 'dark gray underbelly
of Spring cumulus' and the effective repetition of 'still'.

  11. A true (brief) ode to aging well, I believe. Moving through those negatives to embrace the moment. I'm with you.
