“We can never be gods, after all--but we can
become less than human with frightening ease.”
--N.K. Jemisin.
From Sputnik to the Space Station,
for over sixty years
we’ve been putting junk
in outer space.
Some floats
back to earth.
Some floats
out into nebulas
unknown.
Angels flap angry wings,
and gods wink,
then winch
at man’s
arrogance.
Should we pay attention?

Indeed... I don't know... for sure we don't need war in space which seems to be the current trend.
ReplyDeleteOh, I can see those angels flapping angry wings. So descriptive!
ReplyDeleteHumans and their junk - every where. I am surprised the angels don't weep instead of wink. I posted a pic on FB of a junked up, trashed beach. It was cleaned and kept clean. A year later, thousands of sea turtles hatched and swam to the sea. I wish we could be wiser.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised angels are flapping angry wings' at space junk. I don't know why gods wink at man's arrogance - I'm wincing, Glenn! Toni is right about humans leaving junk everywhere - I despair.
ReplyDeleteGood point: "for over sixty years
ReplyDeletewe’ve been putting junk
in outer space."
The illustration amazed me about our dreams of science 80 years ago.
Indeed! And at this rate will our coming generations learn from our mistakes?
ReplyDeleteWe are a polluting species, for sure.
ReplyDeleteGods wince - I am sure they do. Yes, we should be concerned.
ReplyDeleteA thought provoking piece as always. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDelete“Angels flap angry wings,” - fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWe should be paying attention. The junk and trash that give out is just overwhelming the planet and space.
ReplyDeleteSpace pollution. Just what the universe needs! Cool write, Glenn!
ReplyDeleteSeems we leave a trail wherever we go and not always in a good way. A good one Glenn.
ReplyDeleteJunk in space, garbage in the oceans, and we live a few miles from a landfill...what messes we make!
ReplyDeletehumans leave such a mess behind - i hope the gods did not get hit in the eye, and had to wink the trash out
ReplyDeleteI should think the gods are yawning by now.
ReplyDeleteGood one :) Janice
ReplyDeleteLOVE this one! Angels have every right to flap their wings in anger at humanity's gall to litter even the solar system! Great take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteSo true. So much junk on the planet and in space now. Wonderful response to the prompt.
ReplyDeleteWe’re a messy lot.....junk everywhere!😳
ReplyDeleteIt seems there is no place that is safe from our recklessness.
ReplyDeleteGreat response, Glenn. We just can’t seem to keep our hand off anything.
ReplyDeleteHi Glenn! I enjoyed reading your poem here. Well written, and engaging... yes, we weren't satisfied just littering our earth... ;-(
