The Happiness Connection
“The greatest happiness you can can have is
knowing that you do not necessarily need
happiness.”--William Saroyan.
Happiness is
Kermit strumming
a banjo,
My wife
dancing to
Led Zeppelin,
Nine grandchildren
laughing,
My fear
of death
muzzled,
Composing a
good poem,
One of
my photographs
winning a
international award.
Dreaming of
a new President
and a blue sky
boffo tomorrow.

I've always loved what I call "list poems" and this one is no exception. I especially like the grandchildren laughing...and OF COURSE, ending with a new president and blue skies! :) PLEASE MAKE IT SO! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope for VERY blue skies tomorrow... nothing would be better to bring happiness back.
ReplyDeleteNice list!
ReplyDeleteHappiness is measured in moments. Make the most of them!
ReplyDeleteYes, to all of this.
ReplyDeleteI almost went this route--and would have added a baby's laugh. And what Jane said. 😀
You highlight the stray bits of flotsam that can light up one's world. Each substantial but each with the lightness of infinity. Interactivity is the common denominator, being a part of whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteIt's the small moments you've mentioned that make up happiness if we allow ourselves to treasure them. ....and I'm hoping for BLUE skies too!
ReplyDeleteA great list! I do hope you feel happy tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Here's hoping for very blue skies tomorrow and afterwards, Glenn 💝
ReplyDeleteA marvelous list, and may it be so.
ReplyDeletefamily and blue skies always a winner in the happiness stakes
ReplyDeleteMay all of those things happen.
ReplyDeleteListerrific. Many same items for me (not the grandchildren, though).
ReplyDeleteNicely done quadrille.
ReplyDeleteYour heartfelt list takes us there with you. Many of us could identify with your great poem!
ReplyDelete(Poor old Kermit, what sock drawer did he end up in?) A fine list of wishes; may they all be within your grasp.
ReplyDeleteSome great reasons to be cheerful here, Glenn: it's hard not to smile at Kermit, and once the Muppet-in-Chief is gone we can all smile more easily!
ReplyDeletei love the lightness and then the closing which is a signature Glenn poetic move!
ReplyDeleteYour list of happy moments made me smile, Glenn. ‘Happiness is’ made me think of the old ‘Love is’ cartoons, which I followed as a teenager. We share a lot of happy moments too: Kermit. Led Zep, grandchildren (I only have the one, but that’s a blessing) and poetry. I have my fingers crossed for a new president.
ReplyDeleteWow you said it all Glen
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week
Much💙love
