 The Happiness Connection

“The greatest happiness you can can have is

knowing that you do not necessarily need

happiness.”--William Saroyan.

Happiness is

Kermit strumming

a banjo,

My wife

dancing to

Led Zeppelin,

Nine grandchildren

laughing,

My fear

of death

muzzled,

Composing a

good poem,

One of

my photographs

winning a

international award.

Dreaming of

a new President

and a blue sky

boffo tomorrow.

  1. I've always loved what I call "list poems" and this one is no exception. I especially like the grandchildren laughing...and OF COURSE, ending with a new president and blue skies! :) PLEASE MAKE IT SO! :)

  3. Happiness is measured in moments. Make the most of them!

  4. Yes, to all of this.
I almost went this route--and would have added a baby's laugh. And what Jane said. 😀

  5. You highlight the stray bits of flotsam that can light up one's world. Each substantial but each with the lightness of infinity. Interactivity is the common denominator, being a part of whatever it is.

  6. It's the small moments you've mentioned that make up happiness if we allow ourselves to treasure them. ....and I'm hoping for BLUE skies too!

  12. (Poor old Kermit, what sock drawer did he end up in?) A fine list of wishes; may they all be within your grasp.

  13. Some great reasons to be cheerful here, Glenn: it's hard not to smile at Kermit, and once the Muppet-in-Chief is gone we can all smile more easily!

  15. Your list of happy moments made me smile, Glenn. ‘Happiness is’ made me think of the old ‘Love is’ cartoons, which I followed as a teenager. We share a lot of happy moments too: Kermit. Led Zep, grandchildren (I only have the one, but that’s a blessing) and poetry. I have my fingers crossed for a new president.
