Juke Me Softly

“My temperature’s risin’. The juke’s blowin’ a fuse.

Roll over Beethoven. Tell Tchaikovsky the news.”

--Chuck Berry.

I knew a cat

called Juke Jones.

He

and his Lady Jane

would bop for hours

in front of

a juke box.

They also hung out

at Big Mary’s,

a juke joint

down at the end

of Reservation Road.

  1. Love the jazz, and it sounds a lot like they know how to jazz it well... such fun, and I can imagine that one time I used not to get tired.

  2. Whassup G!!!!

Hope you are doing well. I probably would enjoy hanging out with this couple though I don't know if I would be able to hang nights on end, not like back when...fun quote by Chuck as well.

So what have you been up to? Writing any more serials?

  6. Ha! I'd like to visit that joint. :) And oh yes.....when the juke box was on, it was like we had energy plus and not from an energy drink like those caffeine things they have now....but from the chocolate or cherry coke and the music blaring! :)

  7. I remember on a road trip, stopping in to a small tavern...........I wonder if they still have them in this age when everything is so big and snazzy........

  8. Love this, Glenn. I came of age dancing to jukebox music, when 'I was legal' quaffed down a few in them as well! Great times.

  12. Such a fine piece of mixed media art, from the choice of image to the musical lyric opener, to the memories of a lively time of living.

  21. Love this ‘beer joint’ spirit bro, you know I do. I met Jones and Jane, and been to Mary’s more than once — used to hang and perform at the Inner Circle in the 60’s. These three colorful characters, and all their vivid friends, juked snd jived and jawed there every Wed Fri & Sat — then we’d go sneakin’ up on breakfast. Hope all is well my friend…! Nice to see Brian and Claudia join in the fun this prompt.

  22. Love the way the last line left me hanging, left me to imagine where the story goes.
