Juke Me Softly
“My temperature’s risin’. The juke’s blowin’ a fuse.
Roll over Beethoven. Tell Tchaikovsky the news.”
--Chuck Berry.
I knew a cat
called Juke Jones.
He
and his Lady Jane
would bop for hours
in front of
a juke box.
They also hung out
at Big Mary’s,
a juke joint
down at the end
of Reservation Road.

Love the jazz, and it sounds a lot like they know how to jazz it well... such fun, and I can imagine that one time I used not to get tired.
ReplyDeleteWhassup G!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well. I probably would enjoy hanging out with this couple though I don't know if I would be able to hang nights on end, not like back when...fun quote by Chuck as well.
So what have you been up to? Writing any more serials?

Oh this is exquisitely wrought! I love the hues and shades of Jazz in this- subtle and alluring- how can one possibly grow weary? 💝💝
ReplyDeleteI can so imagine this Glenn- well done!
ReplyDeleteHey Glenn - how are you doing?
ReplyDeleteNice scene weaving as always - oh that jazz
Hope all is well on your shore
Ha! I'd like to visit that joint. :) And oh yes.....when the juke box was on, it was like we had energy plus and not from an energy drink like those caffeine things they have now....but from the chocolate or cherry coke and the music blaring! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember on a road trip, stopping in to a small tavern...........I wonder if they still have them in this age when everything is so big and snazzy........
ReplyDeleteLove this, Glenn. I came of age dancing to jukebox music, when 'I was legal' quaffed down a few in them as well! Great times.
ReplyDeleteYesssss.
ReplyDeleteThe energy of youth is something to admire!

ReplyDeleteSo many memories are triggered by the word. I loved the juke joints. JJ and Lady Jane were always there!
They got lots of energy. Play that song again!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fine piece of mixed media art, from the choice of image to the musical lyric opener, to the memories of a lively time of living.
ReplyDeleteYou really brought the scene and characters to life through your words.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun lovin' couple that liked to have a good time! Well done Glenn!
ReplyDeleteHow could you tire of Chuck Berry! I can just picture this livewire couple, thanks Glenn.
ReplyDeleteHello Glenn it has been a while and wow I do love your style
ReplyDeleteDefinite atmosphere here, Glenn! JJ and Jane sound fun. I hope they don't get into a car at the end of the night on Reservation Road.
ReplyDeleteThis gives me the rockin' pneumonia, I need a shot of rhythm and blues.
ReplyDeleteThey surely luvved the music. Nice one Glen
ReplyDeleteMuch💜love
There is always that one couple......high energy. Fun use of juke!
ReplyDeleteLove this ‘beer joint’ spirit bro, you know I do. I met Jones and Jane, and been to Mary’s more than once — used to hang and perform at the Inner Circle in the 60’s. These three colorful characters, and all their vivid friends, juked snd jived and jawed there every Wed Fri & Sat — then we’d go sneakin’ up on breakfast. Hope all is well my friend…! Nice to see Brian and Claudia join in the fun this prompt.
ReplyDeleteLove the way the last line left me hanging, left me to imagine where the story goes.
ReplyDeleteGlenn, if you tell me that this is not a true story, I won't believe you.
ReplyDeleteYours,
David
this is clear and laden with music. well done.
