Man-Stopper
“Even at 100 years old, the 1911 is the best defensive
weapon the world has ever known.”--Anonymous.
As a side arm,
there has never been
anything cooler than
the M1911 Colt .45.
In comic books,
the Phantom and the Shadow
used a brace of them.
Bogart and Cagney
in those gangster movies,
always had one in each hand.
Back in actual 1911,
John Browning designed
the original;
a single-action,
semi-automatic,
magazine fed,
channeled for .45
caliber bullets.
It was manufactured by Colt.
The government wanted a man-stopper,
to replace the wimpy .38 service pistols.
The Army purchased
tens of thousands of them,
using them in
WW1, WWII, Korea, & Viet Nam,
before changing over
to Tupperware Glocks.
Today, a half dozen companies
make “almost original” copies,.
costing from 600 to 900 bucks.
I would prefer hunting harder
and scoring an original
for $5,000.00.

I absolutely agree! Nothing beats the original no matter how flashy. This is such an in depth glimpse into the actions of those in power and what happens when weapons are readily available. I remember seeing them in comic books too, yes! You rocked the prompt, Glenn ππ
Gotta trust you on this Glenn — guns ain’t my thing brother.
There's nothing abstract about a 'Man-Stopper' Glenn: great choice of subject, this super-efficient death delivery machine!
If only we put such care and energy into weapons of peace...
Glenn, it seems that you know a lot about this... where did you learn all of this?

I have never had any wish to have a gun, but I do remember the submachine gun I had in the military which was model 1945...
I cannot understand that gun owners mentality as we in Canada, for ordinary folks, don't own guns. The title speaks for itself.
