Wanderitch

Wanderitch

“Writing is like a lust, like scratching when you itch.”
--C.S. Lewis

There it is--
that yearning,
that itch
to behold new horizons,
                famous icons,
                regional fare,
                tumultuous topography,
                separate seas,
                singing whales--

to rise
before the dawn,
to head Southwest,

to slip into darkness
needing to rush to
greet the sunrise;
a fresh pungent
today.

  4. I like the play on words in the title. I suffer from this ailment myself and I’m so pleased you gave voice to it.

  9. To see the sunrise one has to slip temporarily into darkness.

  10. All these things are right outside your front door methinks! Nothing like our fresh Northwest air.

  11. So much to see and enjoy that can only be had through travel. I prefer road trips for that purpose.

  13. There it is--

The itch can be a great motivator to trigger off what may be hovering in the sunshine! Very much so!

  16. I love this wanderitch quadrille, Glenn. It makes me think of my husband, who is still travelling around the world to music gigs, as many as he can; it will have to stop when he retires as he won't be able to afford it. I've turned into a home bird - my travelling days are behind me - but I still appreciate that wanderitch!

  17. Grrrr..writing my reply again....trouble posting it!
Love this wanderitch post....toward a fresh pungent pundit day! And the Route 66 image is perfect with it.
I must say...more time for reading and writing allow me to armchair-wander more in my rejuvenatement years😊.... and sometimes wandering on wheels as well!

  18. I really love the ending - how this poem just seems to build in the need to get up, out and go - and the words, the closing words, well - anyone who has been traveling and has risen in the darkness to set out to chase the sunrise - they would understand the wording "fresh pungent today" ...
    wonderful piece!
