The Moon is Not a Source of Light

fire-bombing dresden could not
kill him
neither could obliterating
baghdad or
flattening fallujah
he always crawls
from the ashes
shining brighter
revealing the shadows
on television tonight he
said his name
was kurt vonnegut
but I call him
intelligent reason
and a seeker of truth
there may have
been a man
named vonnegut
that said impeachment
on the screen
as he must
sometimes reveal
himself as a body
with a voice
there are other forms
that will come
if we do not
listen
to the sun
and turn away
from the moon
