So Near, and Yet

So Near, and Yet

Caught together, worlds apart,
Listening for songs in the other's heart,
Stunned by summer's full-lipped kiss,
Listing the dreams she might miss.

Somewhere in the shadows, of life beyond,
Her feeling for him has faded to fond.
Inside, his words, buckled and broke
On the back of a love he could not invoke.
