Beyond the Bland
“I often quote myself. It adds spice to my
conversation.”--George Bernard Shaw.
In
the early 90’s,
as Clinton
tom-catted,
the first major
pop group sensation
out of England
was the Spice Girls--
Mel B.,
Emma,
Melanie,
Geri, and
Victoria.
They danced
more than
they rocked.
Victoria
was dubbed
the “Posh Spice”.
I loved
“Spice Up Your Life”.

That's a fresh take on the prompt!!!
Love the Shaw quotation! And I'm always ready to spice up my little fe😊 Is that the Mel B who is the judge on America's Got Talent?
Yes, Lillian, that is the gal ! Shaw, Bjorn & I all quote ourselves; smile.
Who could have known... I do remember Spice girls (but I never listened to them). I din't see you as a fan.
I did think of the Spice girls, but wasn't sure how I could fit them into a poem. I wouldn't say I was a fan, but I recognise their songs when I hear them. She's still Posh, by the way.
Toni never listened to the spice girls. She would have never thought you a fan of them!
zig a zig ahh
Excellent take on the prompt. They certainly did add a bit of spice to a dull dreary day.
A Spice Girl fan, Glenn? Who knew! Fun read.
We just bonded, Glenn. This poem has to be just for me. :)
I love them --- their characters more than their music.

Never listened to the Spice Girls, but Mel B. as a judge on America's Got Talent does not impress me. Her wardrobe reminds me of too much pepper, garlic, oregano, chives, orange peel, and about ten other spices in what should be a simple potato soup. Just hideous! But your poem is great.
Ah, the nineties! Memories...even if I was never a Spice Girls fan! :)
LOL. Love this take on the prompt. :)
I am listening to Spice Up Your Life for the first time right now. I think I missed the 90s entirely, but I did hear the name "Spice Girls" in conversation.
I love the GB Shaw Prompt - typical of him! Didn't have you for a Spice Girls fan, though, Glenn. :) We'd just moved up to Norfolk in 1992 and my daughter was in a new school, so all her friends loved the Spice Girls while she was into the music we were listening to: Metaliica, Alice in Chains, Sondgraden, as well as old favourites Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Free and Thin Lizzy, amongst others - I was still listening to Joni and Billy Holliday, of course. At first, her friends from school thought we were weird, but later it was deemed cool to come round our house to watch cult movies and listen to music!
Apropos quote, sir, and I remember the gals as the rage..and my daughter liked them.
Wow, really throwing us all for a loop with this spicy confession! I never liked them but somehow knew every word to 'If You Wannabe By Lover.' Ok, still do:)
