Killer Kick

Killer Kick

if we become apathetic, art can kick our ass, give
us back conscience & focus.”--Erik Pevernagil.

Sunday got the blues
as I sat alone
watching the Seahawks

lose a game
to the Washington Redskins
17-14.

Kicker Blair Walsh,
the man with a golden leg,
missed three field goals,

contributing mightily
to the loss,
all three kicks

wildly to the left.

Ha.. I have never really understood why it's called football when there is only one player that is playing with his feet. Soccer is football I think.

Ugh.

The Steelers were off this week, but the week they lost to the Jags I wanted to puke. Ben threw like 5 interceptions. Ridiculous.

The thing with a kicker too is that it can get into your head and you really have to fight to get it back. I was rooting for you. I can't stand the Skins. A pretty crazy game though. You were still in it.

Having lived in Seattle for a good number of years, my son is also a fan of the SeaHawks. I always feel sorry for the kicker if they miss....and most especially if the game is on the line. They stand there --- it's them, their foot, and those goal posts. UGH! Poor guy :(
HAH -- when you said they were all "wide left", knowing your proclivity to political satire, I was waiting for a stanze that connected it to the political scene....wide left....:)

Thanks for the game recap! I took a walk, you watched a game. It sounds like both of us had eventful Sundays! My husband watched that game because he was bored. I sat in the bedroom reading, drinking Ovaltine and listening to the rain. He was disappointed but more so at the college football game on Saturday - VA Tech vs. Miami. Now college football is what he really enjoys.

Bjorn, you have to be American to understand why "football".... smiles. I still don't understand why they call those things the refs pull out of their pockets "flags" when they are not attached to anything. for my mind, they need to be called hankies.

Damn, he's pretty hot. :P

I'm with Bjorn on this one - we play real football over here! I can't get the gist of American football.

American football... an enigma to me but thank you for giving it life in your words :)

Don't follow the game myself but sorry for your team's loss ~ Those wild kicks can sure bring defeat ~

As a 49er fan, what can I say? Our team is so bad, what can I say about that? Haven't been watching much because of David's surgery and needing to do much more than usual, but it is a fickle game. Perfect choice for the prompt.

Well, it could have been worse. Try being a Giants fan this week. Grrr!

Great play on words, throughout the poem!

It looks like what one expects doesn't always happen. I can imagine Walsh's own disappointment.
