Iraq Insomnia

IRAQ INSOMNIA

Screeching night
Tunnels through the pillow to my head
To pierce my stoppled ears
A fear spike in my gut
Spilling ants out of perforate frear organ
Crawling to the edge of my mind.,
Their tracks inside my eyes
Are tracer bullets in the night
Searching
Destroying mind tendrils
Till light sneaks by translucent lids–
I’m now in red-eyed morning.
To dare the day
A twenty-four hour day
That won’t go “way
To live the day so I can say
“I’ve lived another day?”
