Pink Petunias

Pink Petunias

A phonecall from the past:
and the present seems richer, layered
with unrealized importance.
Of course, you hoped it would be, but,
knowing yourself, you doubted it.
That was always the problem! Self-doubt,
courtesy of whomever you could
(and would) blame—
but let’s not. Life is vast.
Why pretend you can
analyze it? Critique
of pure reason.
Critique of critiquing.
Wondering if other people are more certain
or is it just a facade—such as
the pink petunias,
bright & early beside the picket fence,
their lives
facade-deep.
Pure facade:
purely alive.
