Tenor
Tenor
For decades,
to strengthen the muscle
of his diaphragm,
he’s pumped the weightless iron
of his breath,
his ribs bowing
like the bars of a cage
creaking with the fury
of its oversized beast.
Sans amplification,
he practices beneath the blue,
roofed skies of cathedrals,
inhaling the candle-
scented air of sanctuaries,
exhaling his edifices
of tone.
