Crawford Ranch Epitaph

Crawford Ranch Epitaph

are you afraid of
mothers of
dead soldiers

hearts should
be locked
away in secret

while men
play their war games

does the fear
of your
own penis

without a
sheath or
dose of salt peter

make you flip
old testament pages

is it easy for
you to drive
past women in tears

women with
years of empty
days alone

no son to bring
a grandchild home

remember as you
go on with
your life

conveniently
ignoring mothers
without sons

your army is one
of sons with mothers
