September 11th Anniversary
September 11th Anniversary
I’m awake
breathing like a mangy dog
happy on a soft bed
oblivious to my appearance
and odor
the world is coming awake
outside the window
coyotes run home
after clearing the streets of
cats rabbits mice
the sun lights the sky
warms the clouds
but wants a day off
like the rest of us
especially today
a day marked
like a sinister bull
branded
with death’s brand
the sun asks
how many corpses
will I warm today in
the desert
we decide the answer
but act like
it is out of our hands
we are awake
but coyotes have run off
with our souls

In two days we will have
the 8th anniversary of 09/11/01.
Where is that death dog Osama?
Are the mountains of Afghanistan
so formidable that we cannot ferret
his bony butt out?
The American Empire continues to grow
while we're waiting for his head.
