Then There Were Five

Then There Were Five

“Behold the number five is at hand. Grab it & shake
it & harness its power.”--Jacod Kintz.

I.

A child’s portal
can be a secret garden,
Comanche encampment,
or saucer to Mars.

II.

An iron bird perched
on the haunches
of a bronze horse,
awaiting reanimation.

III.

No longer in harness
the F600 became content
to host oxidation
& families of mice.

IV.

Concrete flowers gather
moss & lichen
as verdant mantle
& party guests.

V.

Stone crosses are
cemetery stars, enjoying
the role of pious lead
in God’s pencil.

This is sharp, an arrow just cutting right through. I love the brevity. "Party guests"! I love your imagination!

I like this a lot.. you should write these little gems more often... and yes there is a moment of capturing two images at the same time...

These are wonderful. This style becomes you very well. I hope we see more like this in the future. The images and imagination are spectacular.

Wonderful collection of precise images, Glenn. My favorite would have to be 4 or 5. Williams and HD would be proud of you.

You are a master of imagist poems, Glenn! You have outdone yourself with this collection!

Pretty much nailed it, Glenn. These are gorgeous, tangible, and thought provoking...just what those folks who wrote the manifesto intended! Bravo!!

Excellent, Glenn, with an eye for detail like you have, it seems you had no trouble finding your inner imagist!

Some great pieces here. I especially liked the F600 hosting oxidation and a family of mice. I can just see a rusted old hulk in a field somewhere.

Great job - and each one better than the one before.

Everything about this is exceptional, from the quote to the very last poetic finger.

Right on! Or should I say 'write on'? Images just wonderfully sneak in.

You are on fire, Bjorn. These are all superb. I take it that the F600 is an aircraft?

vivinfrance said...

Sorry Glen, I meant you, but pressed the wrong buttons.

Glenn Buttkus said...

No worries, Viv. The F600 is an old Ford pick up truck

All of these were fun to read, but I really liked the second one. I could picture that poor bird...waiting...and waiting.

These are so different and so sharp in their focus. I love the first one as a reminder of setting up camp.

ImagiNation..
visual images
created and remembered
in mind that some of us
can count on.. but some
of us.. as science and
others tale in
words alone..
are not
images
that they
can see with
eye's mind
iN view..
Never a word
person myself until
recently as far as thinking
goes.. reading plenty but
visual images.. patterns.. are my forte.
Interestingly enough.. some folks
navigate the world in words of
guiding through
and for others
an iron cross
can take one farther
iN iMages than the longest
locomotive
words
known
as print..
so sure i'm waiting
patiently for 6 to 99..
guaranteed to come..
as pictures tale more
words than mind
will
ever say..:)

I'm a late party guest but enjoying the poetry buffet! Your offerings are excellent :)
(Would it be better to write "and" as word, not ampersand?)
