A Break In the Dark
A Break in the Dark
The lemon-shaped moon tilts
a star is blinking
red, I blink back to clear
my vision but the star still flashes red
No leaves move
yet a breeze drifts
passing close. Darkness sways
on the soft side of black.
My shadow stands short
and still in the lamp-lit
alley but stretches
as I turn toward home.
It hesitates before it strides
forward to be swallowed
by a house empty
of Mars and moonlight.
