Evergreen Dave and the Blind
Evergreen Dave and the Blind
by Harvey Goldner
My friend Dave—who
in his heart and in his room
is a city-planner of some renown,
but who drives taxi to pay the rent
and could lose that if he doesn't stop
debating with cops—
was standing on the sidewalk
in front of the Bailey/
Coy bookstore on Broadway,
scanning the jackets, when
a blind man came boldly down the
sidewalk, sweeping with his cane.
The cane struck Dave, and the
blind man, without stopping, said:
"Get a job."
