Standing Room Only
Painting by Ilana Manolson
Standing Room Only
Through open curtains
Spring steps frivolous
swirls to center stage
to the beat of melted frosts.
Birds chirp dawn
red oak hands out
brown parchment flyers
as grackles strut ballets.
Colors voice fresh tunes
days begin to waltz
sun lingers to kiss
the rhythm of events.
I hear Green ! Buds hum
branch-tip tones, grass tendrils
tap-dance on bald earth, while
willows sway ochre threads.
Citrines pirouette before
blue backgrounds, float fragrance
almost forgotten -- perfume
yet to be bottled by summer.
Drama is a classic
another yearly hit.
Tomorrow, I'll clip rave reviews
as I clutch my season pass.
