Al Fresco Cafe Poems #28
Painting by Gaye Lynne LaGuire
AL FRESCO CAFÉ POEMS # 28
The refinement of the West
Has been from
Religious coherence
To scientific correspondence
To artwork coherence,
From ecstatic
To positivistic
To autotelic trances.
From St. Terea,
To Pierre Simon Laplace,
To Wallace Stevens.
But nursery rhymes
Send out ex cathedra messages,
London bridge
Is always falling down,
Humpty Dumpty
With his short legs
Cannot sit secure
On such a high wall
And will fall.
Now, there’s navigation
Without destination,
And for transportation
There is not even
A Drunken boat.
