On Wanting & Absence & the Distance of That Which Is So Near
on wanting & absence & the distance of that which is so near
"nothing ever happened & it's all true."--Ric Williams
& who is there
its ache wrapped
inside a thing a thing
it is always a ghost
& the noise
breaks
even as you pull
it's edges away:
it knows
what suffers
clings to
fear
a surface
blind
to it
it has
no name
no place to be
deepened in
absence
hidden
in the shine
of endless weeping
in its unbearable wanting
& when the river receives the light
the waters repeat what wants
& disowns its distancing
Richard Lance Williams
