O Captain, My Captain

O Captain, My Captain

“Sucking the marrow out of life doesn’t mean
choking on the bone.”--John Keating.

The Apple commercial
does not credit the film,
the actor, or

the poet, but
it is very effective regardless--
movies about poets,

like movies about
making movies, always rev up
my creative turbos;

once an actor,
always the movie buff, poet
from puberty, I

love it when
the two co-inhabit the same
space, though often

I must be
satisfied with a movie or
commercial about writers,

about the passion,
the beautiful loneliness of a
long distance poet,

who must write,
must loose the mutts of
poetics, & allow

the words unleashed
to rush through the world
as vitriolic muscular

verse. True that.

The loneliness of a long distance poet is very real. One gets to be alone and longing for the eventual make-up of getting a good poem off the shelf. Not easy but the necessary inspiration can be drawn from those quiet moments. Great write Glenn!
