When you visit, I'll sleep
on the couch while you sleep

in my bed. I'll leave
my best blanket

for you, take my nightmares
with me. In the morning

tell me how well you slept
and make coffee

while I crawl back, nearly
sleepless, into my bed

and leave you
to the silence

of your first cigarette
of the morning. Watch over me

as I sleep, please
shake me awake

if I begin to struggle
against the next loup garou

shifting its shape, against
the new werewolf

too cruel to notice
its moon has gone down.
