A Chopin Etude
Painting by John Singer Sargent
A CHOPIN ETUDE
The week was warped,
So
Was the wind
Bent,
Even silence had its corrugations.
My mirages
Was marked by an anonymous professor,
“Incorrect.”
Behind the blinds, she with the black silk strap
Across a bare shoulder played the piano.
The applause, forced, singular and loud.
