Gold and Silver Tree and Weed Waltz
Painting by Ryan Brown
Gold and Silver Tree and Weed Waltz
This summer, rain drops, larger, thicker,
Drops become amorphous
Splashing on spines, fingers of oak leaves,
Drop merges with adjacent drop,
As if there had never prior been a separation,
Each sunlit oak looks
As if made of glass and dazzles.
The flat land horizon is crystal candles,
White flames have made another world atop blue.
In front of the silver glittering background,
Gold flames sprout from the earth, weeds
flame but do not burn, instead, wave,
A blade’ s reflex sends out a pale gold tassel.
