Oh Christ

image borrowed from bing

Oh Christ

Did Jesus really look like
Jeffrey Hunter,
or Max Von Sydow,
or Jim Caviesel,
some lean handsome Aryan
dude with flowing locks?

Or did he look like some Jewish
spear carrier on Broadway
in “The Merchant of Venice”;

hook nose, dark skin, brown eyes,
nappy hair and all?

Only A&E dared show us the truth.

Yeah...
I think he looked like Denzel Washington!
Or at least like Omar Shariff!

I once heard a black historian say he was black. William Blake said he looked like the person who believed him or not. Who knows? Doesn't matter, I think. But I do believe that the blond haired blue eyed god is a demon, as my poet friend Crucial might say. lol

You're right; scripture says there was nothing physically appealing which would draw people to him. My interpretation is that he was not particularly attractive ... probably muscular, though, since he did physical labor for much of his life. And yes, dark. Soft when he needed to be, hard when he needed to be. And funny, I always picture him making people laugh. :)

Just another example of how we recreate God to our image. Loved your reading of it, Glenn.
