Midwives and Healers
Midwives and Healers
She appears out of
nowhere,
In nameless forests,
she sits to mull it all over,
She vanishes without
a clue. always mysterious,
She is fluid, survivor
of wars of many kinds,
Upon the expiration
of her last breath,
A white light the color
of a swan's wing
Will rise from her body,
soar the heavens,
The last Beloved Woman
cries,
"Young women, be sure
you receive
The full richness of
older women's knowledge,
Build yourself up from
experience and practice,
Don't let them abuse you,
go softly into the night,
Bathe in the waterfall,
make love under
Beloved Woman's stars,
listen to the music,
Keep your eyes fixed on
the Light of the Fire,
Remain constantly ready
to protect your women and children,
Who brings us into being, cultivates our
lands, boils our pots, and kindles our fires?
Midwives and Healers."
