Shangrilala
Shrangrilala
Gone--
the yoke,
the chains,
the rut,
the deadlines,
the commute,
the stress,
the forced changes,
mandates, and edicts,
the ape in the corner office.
Arrived--
Birdsong for an alarm clock.
A cat who has adopted my lap.
A lighter step.
A key-start walk-behind lawn mower.
A 2008 silver Suzuki Grand Vitara.
A Sanyo 45” flat screen HD television.
An orange Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner.
More vases of flowers for my wife.
Less bulk and smaller waist levis.
A crew that shows up monthly to tailor our yard.
Aching mandibles from copious smiling.
The constant echo of children’s laughter.
The sounds of trains at night make me happy.
The timely and joyous arrival of the Me Time Express.
A buzzing cortical carnival between my ears
that has free admission
and never closes.

The second half sounds much more fun. Congratulations.
Lovely lovely and lovely. Congratulations, mazel tov on a new beginning. You deserve it. What movies to watch should be the biggest problem.

Congrats, Glenn! I'm so happy for you. Life is good.
Cheers,
Cherry
LOL. I saw the synchronicity also but did not know you had seen the poem. Isn't it fun to catch that fleeing glimpse of the perfection of things.
It's like you wrote a rebuttal to his poem,
THE JOBHOLDER.

There is something very haunting, and yet so comforting, about hearing a train in the night. In the winter, after the leaves are gone and the air is thin, there is one that can be heard every night around 3:00 a.m. It makes me happy, as well.
Hey there,
Yes, I saw that poem and it made me smile really big. Sounds like your Me-time really suits you. I'm so glad you did some financial planning that will allow you both to enjoy your retirement years. When is Melva retiring?
Keep me in your loop...
Much Love, K
Glen: Shangrilala - what joy here! And a joy to read too - I love the aching mandibles! Perhaps the only line that I felt wasn't necessary was 'The timely and joyous arrival of the Me Time Express' as the poem clearly and effectively shows this idea.
