Wild Ride

Wild Ride

“I have already thus begun a thousand lives.”
--Ranier Maria Rilke

Like a road trip
or making love,
the swirling light-headed passion
and excitement
of those first precious moments,
rife with anticipation,
lead to some undiscovered emotion,
some significant treasured pleasure,
and while the blood is up,
with tires smoking
and gluteus mufflers racking,
with the top down
and your shirt off,
it becomes to hell with dead ends,
red herring avenues,
the cost of fuel and fatigue--
let us mount 2011
like a spirited nostril-flaring steed,
dig in our spurs,
one hand full of mane,
the other pointing straight ahead.

Your beautiful comment to my Facebook status by Rilke deserved to be worked into a poem. Glad he and I inspired you today, Glenn. Love that nostril-flaring steed!
