It is the 70th anniversary of the United States' formal declaration of war on 8 December--America's entry into World War II.
The generation who was of age to fight in that war and personally remembers Pearl Harbor and World War II is undergoing a great deal of natural attrition--a survivor who was 17 during the attack is 87 today--and so, people are undertaking efforts to ensure that their bravery and sacrifice will not be forgotten, even after no one remains who personally remembers.
