The Eternal K-Mart Layaway Odyssey
Every summer, skinny and poor,
and the survivor of a constant war,
I collected aluminum cans.
And sold them for ten cents a pound
at Recycled Joe’s.
Our mother earth breeds nothing
feebler than a man.
