Painting by David Hockney
Equinoctial Gales
“The arrival of Spring cannot be communicated in
one painting.”--David Hockney.
The very air is spiked with auditory delights--a
saxophone bleating alto from someone’s attic,
a phalanx of snow geese piercing the clouds,
and a piper cub dodging their feathered “V”.
The mud-daubing wasps
are making nests in our eaves;
Spring has trumpeted.

Oh, Glenn. There is so much to love here. I can see that broken sky V.
Amazing.
What a wonderful tribute to spring this is. The daubers are building under our eaves as well. It is still freezing cold but daffodils are blooming. Sound the trumpet!
That saxophone from up above really add so much to the symphony of spring... the mud dauber wasps was new to me... don't think we have them
Spring trumpets on a golden daffodil! I like this piece of fresh awakening.
The Hockney painting is so bright and spring-like, I don’t think I can agree with him – and your quadrille has the same qualities, Glenn. I love the saxophone, the snow geese and the trumpeting of spring.
I hope that plane escapes the snow geese … or vice versa, and let's hope Spring is all that's trumpeted. Heaven knows we're all disgusted with the trumpeting coming from Washington!
I like this, and the painting, too!
What a fresh spring like piece!
Glenn, wow dude! This is a festival of sounds and images. Helluva write man. Brief in its 44 words, but none wasted, and wonderfully positive - potent as 16-year-old with a crush! I love this. For me, one of my favorites from you.
Yes and its about time. Love the auditory delights of spring specially the wasps making nests.
Oh gosh! This is as gorgeous as the arrival of Spring itself!!❤️
All the sights and sounds of spring, well done!
A feast of auditory images of Spring, all in a splendid haibun! Bravo!
abuzz with sound and movement, very lively read
"trumpeted" is a nice pairing with the saxophone.
Great Haibun. The Haiku is excellent, and great how it brings back in the geese.
Except for the wasps, lovely.
I love this. Spring is so many things! Not all we look forward to.
Nice description: "a phalanx of snow geese piercing the clouds"
love your signs of Spring
What a delight this is--sounds and images so vivid. The sound of spring.
I love spring and I love your description of the oncoming spring. And the alto saxophone is one of my favorite instruments.
Hurrah for trumpeting spring. A cheery write that made to smile.
Beautiful!!
