Shapio's Rites
Shapiro’s Rites
Rousing,
stirring,
just that lone piano,
and all those young voices,
coming through
the din of gestation,
procreation,
birth and rebirth;
Spring;
Easter,
and a huge beach fire,
there on the eastern beach,
throngs in the darkness
dancing all night,
with their feet in a frenzy
and their eyes
on fire;
finally to make the circle,
holding hands
to greet the morning’s
sunrise,
blazing bloody red-orange,
drenching the residual cumulus;
celebrate!
Gathered
and regathered
as a congregation,
a thousand voices strong;
eyes tilted toward heaven,
greeting the sweet light
of spring
through stained glass;
celebrate!
With one more scene
in Alex’s
heartfelt home
movie;
a helicopter shot,
north to south,
east to west,
every beautiful inch
of her isle;
every treetop,
every field and fence,
every home,
every face,
singing:
“appreciate each moment,
appreciate each friend—
celebrate!

This is quite good and Alex Shapiro is always a good reason to celebrate, any time, any where, wouldn't you agree? :)
Yes, I would, and thanks for noticing our little blog in this corner of the Northwest. I still recall with vividness your lovely poem donated to Alex's blog, NOTES FROM THE KELP.
I believe fervently that Alex is even more than she herself suspects, as an artist; that she is a poet, and has always been. She composes like a poet, and lives like one.

Finding your blog is the beauty of the Internet, Glenn. And I love your (shared) blog! Each of you is distinct in character and complement one another beautifully. Palmer just cracks me up. Is it just me, or does Palmer try to come across as the curmudgeon of your group? I sees his soft underbelly. Bet if I rolled him over and rubbed his tummy like a puppy for a while, I'd get a little lick and arf, what do you think. ;>
And, yes, Alex - she's so multi-talented; if there were to be one, she'd be the quintessential Renaissance Lass..) It's a real puzzle to me how she manages to do all the things she does! Ahhh.. the juice of youth.
Again, thank you so much for sharing some of your wonderful poems with my readers. I especially appreciate all the information you posted about Parnassus, Glenn. It's a gold mine of info and to have it displayed just so on my blog, well, really, I'm overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness and spirit, willing to do all that for me and my blog readers. I feel very fortunate to have you as a contributor to my blog. And I hardly know how to respond to your recent "write up" on me here except to say I'm extremely flattered by the fact that you think my blog is worth telling about because I just write what comes to me. I certainly don't think of my blog as any type of literary blog but I appreciate your thinking it is..:) When I think of a strict literary blog I think in the terms of yours, Silliman's Blog, or even World Class Poetry blog. Do you read them, too? I have links to the blogs on my sidebar at Poetmeister if you're interested.
Well, I best hit the hay as it's 2:30 AM, which is early for a night owl, but I'm fighting off some crappy crud I got at my doctor's office. Believe me, the irony is not lost on me. You keep well and I'm Wishing you a perfect day. :)
How thrilling to find someone who calls this first attempt at a blog site,"the beauty of the Internet".
Thank-you, sincerely. I think I'm blushing a tiny bit.
Yes, Palmer is the loveable curmudgeon, and his bark is much worse than his bite. Actually, to my knowledge, he hasn't ever bitten anyone; anyone who complained about it. He and I go back over 50 years to HS, when we were young, and the world was going to be our oyster.
It was on his blog, FFTL, that I became acquainted with Alex. She is a dynamo, for sure, and her compositions send me, like a legal drug, they intoxicate.
It never occurred to me that the three of us would "compliment" each other so nicely, but heck, we seem to. It all began last year when I started shooting my mouth off on Doug's blog, and Alex had read some of my poetry there, and she recommended I get my own blog and put the stuff out there. Doug leaped into gear, and set up this one, allowing me to co-pilot it, even solo at times. Nice to have you watching, reading, and commenting, Janet.
