Cocteau's Stone Bitches

Cocteau’s Stone Bitches

“The poet doesn’t invent--he listens.”
--Jean Cocteau.

Audacity trumps pomposity
               when a poet dives
headlong & naked           into the steaming crotch
                                          of a stone(d) diva,
who flirts with marble eyes,
               making love without arms.

                                         Onyx bitches are always hard
                                     on the tender flesh folds
                              beneath a poetic scrotum;
yet lusty poets poke stone                with phallic fervor,
                hurting themselves
                while demonstrating their devotion,
suckling granite breasts
like berserk cherubs
who have become
too fat to fly
because the rich rock milk

caused their fucking wings to fall off.

WOWZERS! Fantastic. I especially enjoyed "Beneath a poetic scrotum". And the cherubs who have become too fat to fly.

Ouch.. how clever. I think that's a poet dilemma in a nutshell (sic).. those angelic rocks can be a bitch..

Slick work with the metaphor. Perhaps mere flesh can't handle what feels so at home raping rock.

We need to learn that lesson soon, granite is for looking only. Man and granite don't mix physically.

This is great poetry, both in form and function.

making love without arms - causing wings to fall off...how can a poet fly without wings...I think they would just dive into the concrete world around them. Flirting with marble eyes...as the poet is seduced by rock art...

Too bad about the cherubs. But, really, if poets keep making women of stone, they deserve what they get. Splendidly rich poem and fun to argue with!

I can cosign on this. Visceral imagery, just profane enough to hold my interest.
