Is This The End

Is This The End?

“The killer awoke before dawn. He put his
boots on.”--Jim Morrison

I swear GOD is
   a politician; his explication and
         rebuttal to our accusation that he
               could not possibly love us as much as
         he claims--otherwise why do we
   have to face death with every
breath--why in hell do unspeakably
tragic things happen regularly to
good people--you know, like concentration camps,
                                              bullies & batterers,
                                              genocide.
                                               patricide,
                                               dire hopeless poverty,
                                               serial killers,
                                               plagues,
and way too many assholes in charge of everything
--is that hey, man was given
free will & a road map from
the Get, and simply all those
who choose to disregard        morality,
                                               honesty,
                                               decency,
                                               equity,
                                               equality,
                         & the rule of divine law
                are just choosing to exercise
            their God-given right
        to be themselves in
the humane heart of an
extant Celestial Democracy;
dig it.

The kicker, the egress from all this negative stress
is that a titanic ton of us choose to believe that yes,
all things wear out, so there will be an end to our
husk, but our essence joyfully shifts, skipping and
singing rap hosannas to our next adventure as
easily as one travels through a revolving door.

So, as this poem ends,
actually, the poetics only pause;
this pregnant portion of my poetic
continuum will be finished for now;
I tell myself that these words will find
closure, that my depleted creativity
will have to be recharged before the
next prompt, the next Muse’s call
for my response--that as a poet, my
words will live on, unstoppable,
regardless of what may happen to me

--that is until Morrison’s naked Indian
spirit guide shows up in my dreams;
feathers tied to his phallus, wearing
blood red warpaint, and he walks right
up to me & says:

“Dude, don’t be stupid;
we both are aware that right

now--this is the end.”

I like how you got that Indian in at the end from the Morrison prompt.

Bad things happen to good people because there is evil in the world and we both know, evil is no respecter of persons. And it is after all, only an emphemeral existence on this plane. There is more yet to come. Interesting poem Glenn and interesting take on the prompt. Love how you worked in the Indian.

Well your muse certainly did speak to you with this one. I had to read it twice. I will probably be back. It's that strange feeling I get when I come to the end of a good book but then have to re-read the last two pages just to be sure I didn't miss anything important before I got there.

Interesting -- we both touched this topic. I loved your abrupt Morrison ending -- I think of Voltaire's Candide. Theodicy has no easy replies. Theists tend to think that "this is the best of all possible worlds, because we were given free will and thus evil people exist." BUT, we could still have free will and yet a loving God could stop volcanoes and bugs and viruses and such. Hell, this world would be wonderful place if the only source of suffering was bad people.

Ha...'blood red' is in the air looking for fingertips to dance out for I've also used the same words in a slightly different perspective :)
One could feel the anger and frustration vibrating in the lines. Love the end.

I couldn't agree more, Glenn! And yes, there are way too many assholes in charge of everything, people who don't live in our world - just like 'God' - they have no idea. I love the lines:
'all things wear out, so there will be an end to our
husk, but our essence joyfully shifts, skipping and
singing rap hosannas to our next adventure as
easily as one travels through a revolving door'
and
'So, as this poem ends,
actually, the poetics only pause'.

Oh Dude...........Loving your words and attitude here. Most especially the "Kicker" stanza and the ending.
Late late late to the reading with this prompt....but enjoying my big grin here as I finished reading this one!

Never the end....keep on my friend, keep on!

This I still don't get...Idon't know why I don't get it yet...but why do they die when they didn't deserve it.
Thought provoking write.
