you came back

you came back
from the funeral
with a pair of his dark
underwear, still wrapped
in crinkly
plastic, perhaps
an extra set
or a gift
that he never
got around to…

and now, you are trying
it on with your best
kid face – daring, yet
shy, suspended in the
distance between thighs
and buttocks, waiting
for some sort of
closure, a transformation
from mere mortal
to superhero
from grandson to man
.
