Miracle in the Burbs

Miracle in the Burbs

“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time
we love, every time we give--it’s Christmas.”
--Dale Evans.

I still live
in a
small town,

where
Christmas
carolers stand
in the cold
serenading
us,

where
Santa sits
on a
fire truck
and cruises
the neighborhood,

where tree farms
are just
blocks
away,

where
store window
displays
look like
Norman Rockwell,

where
the reason
for
the season
is
thriving
lovingly
within
every heart,
every home.

I liked this very much, Glenn. You have set before us a beautiful Christmas scene the way we hope it will always be.

You do well with 55's, Glenn! Smiles.

I can really picture your neighborhood, Glenn! We do not have Christmas carolers where I live but I think I'd like that. We do have street lights, window displays and Santa(s) though.
I always like the quotation you choose for us to read and this one is no exception!

A miracle, indeed, that the reason for the season should live. Nice imagery of the small town at Christmastime. Peace, Linda

Glenn, I used to live in just such a town...your poem makes we wish I had never left...this is a spot on description. Great images, very nice. It is like a Rockwell painting in words.

Yes, nothing like a small town Christmas. Every house is decked with lights and you can always count on Santa in the fire truck.

Just as well that there are still places like that...and that there are poets to sing about it.

A beautiful and true festive season! Loved it.

I think a small town is lovely due to the fact everyone knows each other. And are giving each other. But being in a small town is not so good if the culture, the look of the town, is sad. Then being different becomes difficult.

Belonging is educating.

How nice when everything else are on a personal and first name basis. It can never be better. It is what the city people crave for but missed dearly! Nicely Glenn!

Lovely reading, thank you. And I used to live in a small Northern Michigan town very much like this. This poem gives me hope.

I live in a village too, and even with the big supermarkets advertising just within the corner of one's eye, there is something magical about the quieter side of Christmas here. Eloquently put!

Ah, I should have thought of that - asking for a seasonal theme on top of the 55! You did it so well, too, with this evocation of small town and all its wide-eyed wonders during the Christmas season.

I love that you quote Dale Evens! And the poem is mighty fine too.

It seems that the whole essence of small town bliss is condensed into the Christmas Season.
Beautiful memories Glenn
Loved your Norman Rockwell 55
Thanks for playing and sharing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End

Nice 55 Glen. I live in the country but we can chop a Charlie Brown tree down by the creek and call it good. I'd like some store window displays like that. The malls suck.

Have a great weekend in your small town!

I, too, like that you quoted Dale Evans. It seems as if you were writing about my hometown where I grew up in Washington State. Your writing is always smart and full and rich..

That was a beautifully painted scene of Christmas in your 55 Glen ~ we too have the red suited man on a fire-truck throwing out lollies to the kids on the nature-strips., how Christmas should be
