polishing them.
Stones
haunt history.
David slew Goliath
with one.
Sisyphus
rolled one
uphill for an eternity.
Lazarus
watched
as Jesus moved
that boulder
off his tomb
with two words,
Rise Up!

Stones pepper throughout history, you're so right. In at least Chinese culture they are thought to be imbued with sentient spirit. What throws me about stones is that in the wild they are quiet and unassuming but once humans get ahold of them they want to shine and polish them. They have a boulder of jade at the Field Museum in the hall of gems. It looks so out of place there.
You have captured stones through the ages. Of course now I have this looping in my head.
