Love Hurts: Scene Four
Cinemagenic Four
Conundrum
1(overhead crane wide shot) both cars in the frame; woman
begins walking toward the red impala.
2(sound cue) pioneer fiddling.
3(medium shot) the two men’s POV as the woman approaches.
4(close up) drivers face, small smile, dark sunglasses.
5(close up) passenger’s eyes; hungry.
6(insert shot) slow pan of woman’s ample breasts.
7(medium shot) red impala at an odd angle diagonally
in front of woman’s sedan, making it easier for her to walk around
to the passenger’s side.
8(medium three shot) over the shoulders of both men POV as
woman walks up to the passenger side car door.
9 (medium three shot) woman’s back standing awkwardly on the
uneven dirt, having to bend over to visualize both men.
10(close up) heaving cleavage, red bra, as the scoop front of her
peasant blouse billows out just enough.
11(tight two shot) passenger leans out the window, putting his face
closer to the woman.
12(sound cue) jazzy bass fiddle.
13(medium close up) he is a youngish man, small in stature, wide
scar on one cheek, round metal-rimmed Lennon glasses, blond curly
hair cut short, prison style, tie-dyed tee shirt, good articulation on his
muscular arms, big tattoo on his left forearm; the devil flexing his biceps
over crossed bayonets,
caption: hell is for heroes.
14(medium shot) passenger: hey baby, I’m Les; what’s goin’ on?
15(medium close up, over passenger’s shoulder) woman: frowning
into the sun,
our car broke down on us. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it.
I ran the battery dead trying to start it.
16(overhead shot) vulture with its wings spread wide, floating
on the wind.
17(sound cue) native american flute trilling.
18(close up) driver: You all by yourselves out here?
Anybody gone for help?
19driver: heavy-set man in his fifties, longish silver streaked hair tied
back, aviator sunglasses, droopish untrimmed mustache, salt and
pepper several day’s growth of beard, wearing a soiled red suit vest
as a shirt, thick grayish chest hair prominent, overweight, beefy arms,
with a short cigarette dangling from his lower lip.
20(medium shot) woman’s back, hands on her hips, both men eye
balling her.
21(medium close up) woman: so where are you fellows going?
22(close up) lester: we’re fucking going wherever you need us
to go, honeyface.
23(close up) woman’s face, composing herself.
24(sound cue) blues guitar slide.
25(sound cue) husky throb of big V-8 engine idling rough; probably
with a custom camshaft.
26(medium three shot over men’s shoulders) woman: I need to get
to some kind of mechanic, a garage.
27(two shot over driver’s shoulder) lester: Owen, how about this for
a great idea--I will get in the back with our little stranded lady, and
have the kid ride up front with you?
28(two shot over lester’s shoulder) owen removes his sunglasses;
eyes very displeased.
29owen: hell no, numb nuts, they will both ride in the back;
angry edge and tone.
30(wide three shot) woman steps back, dropping her arms.
31(sound cue) more blues slide six-string guitar.
32(voice over) heather: mama?
33(close up) little girl’s face.
34(medium shot) woman grabs her daughter’s hand and pulls her
closer to her hip.
35(medium close up) heather rests her curly blonde head against
her mother’s thigh, sad smile, eyes closed.
36(close up) woman: hey guys, you know.....
37(extreme close up) driver’s eyes behind tinted lenses.
38(three shot, woman’s POV) woman: I don’t know, maybe we
ought to wait for another ride.
39(medium close up) owen leans toward the woman.
40(two shot, woman’s POV) owen: lady, that would be just triple
butt stupid. We can’t leave you and the little one alone out here
in the middle of bumfuck desert nowhere.
41driver’s cigarette is all ash, so he flicks it past the woman.
42(close up) owen: who in Christ’s name knows when another car
might come along. lady, there are some badass mexicans who
cruise these roads on their drug runs.
43(close up) woman’s face as she flipped through the pages of
doubt; consternation on her brow.
44(medium three shot) child tugs on her mother’s hand.
45(close up) heather: mama, I’m hungry and I’m scared.
45(insert shot) two vultures perched on a nearby rock.
46(insect POV wide shot) large yellow and black spider
with a red insignia on its chest spinning a web; both cars
seen through the web design.
47(sound cue) low notes, bass saxophone bleat.
48(medium shot) both men staring at the woman.
49(sound cue) V-8 revving up to clear the tri-power
carb throats; followed by descending rumble of
the twin glasspacks.
50(two shot) woman holding child’s hand tightly,
silently struggling with fear.
51(close up) lester: so whassup, baby? you do know
that at night out here the snakes get as thick as house
flies, and then the coyotes start sniffing around.
52(close up) owen: so lady, do you want us to help you
out, or what?
53(close up) woman: Tasha, my name is Tasha.
54(three shot) lester: Tasha, that’s sweet, Miss Tasha,
that’s cool.
55(close up) owen: alright girlies, gather up your shit
and let’s roll!
56(two shot over owen’s shoulder) lester: That’s bitchin’,
just load up and let’s go. We are happy to be of service.
57(two shot over lester’s shoulder) owen staring hard at
Lester.
58(medium shot) tasha: OK, OK, let’s get some of our
things, baby girl.
59(close up) lester, cheshire cat smile, all teeth.
60(close up) owen, tiny smirk on a stone face.
61(sound cue) hawk’s cry sliding into muted coronet.
62(insert shot) a dust devil swirls up between the vehicles.
63(insert shot) a gray-brown desert tortoise stares directly
into the camera lens, then pulls its head into its shell.

I'd pull my head into my shell, too. Love the native american flute, of course...
Evil Ash and Sand: Haiku
1Some scene's going on!
2Akimbo breasts - grunt filled brays
3Doubt's pages! Shell's shams!
Jim
yours are so unique in delivery and reallyyou arepaying closeattention to some fabulous peripherals each week..look forward to it each one...
This scenario is so full of threatening images. You do the genre proud. But as a director, I would have issues over control of eagles and dust devils, not to mention spiders and tortoises pulling heads in on cue! Haha!
Can't wait for the next dread filled episode!
ha you put us right into the scene...love all the details...paints the scene and characters so vividly...good to have you back in the pub sir and glad to hear that the performance went well
Missed my instalments the last couple of weeks. Glad to have you back. Some of the technical cinematography stuff is beyond my experience, but I love the way you are painting the scene and building the tension in this serial.
Actually, Tony, I have been absent the last couple weeks, working on my play performance; so you probably didn't miss any of this. Thanks for caring.
ah what play is that sir?
would def like to hear more about it...
you already know i gush over this series...ha...its prob my fav stuff by you....
Quite an action/adventure piece here...cool!
Brian, the "community theater" play is 12 ANGRY MEN.
My family & friends call it "type casting"; God help us. My first performance in a play in over 30 years, so it vanquishes my energy, and pumps up my soul.
You know you have a knack for this... Definitely checkout Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath Chapter 3....
