In Defense
Long and lonely is the call
Of the battle horn at the fortress wall.
Each tired heart beats low and cold.
While fallen brothers leave the fold,
Orchestrated rhythmic steel,
Chimes at odds with distant peal.
Motherland retracts her hand,
Carrying all that he had planned,
Alone with sword and shield and earth,
Now held upon his land of birth.
