Irish Madness
With needles of bone
my Irish mothers knit stout sweaters
fierce lines of waterproof knots
obstinate as black sheep
fire-eater DNA stitched sourly
and so lonesome in my family tree
blind gypsy knife-throwers
impotent and stoic as dashboard icons
devout bridge-burners believing
whatever happens is the answer
